This carefully crafted and expert-guided small group photo workshop is in fact a 5-day immersive venture in the less touristy parts of Slovenia, designed for photographers of all skill levels.

What to expect

Learn creative technique and get to know how to approach your environment, while also experiencing the hospitality of incredibly photogenic eastern Slovenian regions. Capture the wild spirit of gipsies, sharp edges of the buildings and the gently rolling hills in the company of acclaimed photographer, Iztok Bončina.  

It’s not just about making your photos better, it’s all about perfect small group atmosphere, inspiring settings and one on one relationship with the professional photographer. And you will also be leaving with the best possible souvenir, a perfect photo!

Iztok Bončina is a freelance photographer and photojournalist, long-time tourist guide, professor of art history, diver and amateur astronomer. In 2019, he completed his PhD in Space Tourism. He has been involved in photography for over thirty years and has published his travel articles in numerous newspapers, magazines and books. He organizes various photography workshops around Slovenia and other countries, eg. Egypt, Sri Lanka, Istanbul, Georgia, Bolivia, Chile, Easter Island. For five years he was also the editor of photography for the Slovenian edition of National Geographic Traveler.

  • Itinerary


    • ARRIVAL TO LJUBLJANA

      Arrival and check in to your accommodation. Start with a proper meet & greet and enjoy a walk through the old town of Ljubljana afterwards. Discover its diversity by admiring the buildings from the Secession, Baroque or socialistic era. 

      Visit Metelkova street, autonomous social center in Ljubljana and discover great examples of Street art. 

      Capture the panorama of Ljubljana and its picturesque castle at the sunset.

    • DOLENJSKA REGION

      Make your first photo stop at Stična monastery, known for its cross-ribbed vaulting. Continue to Otočec, the only water castle in Slovenia, located on an island in the middle of Krka river.

      Just a few minutes away, you'll arrive to Kostanjevica upon Krka, where another impressive building will be ready to get captured. Learn how to take a perfect photo from the boat. 

      End your day in beautiful Krakov Virgin Forest, famous for its unspoiled nature and incredibly rich flora.

    • POSAVJE REGION AND PTUJ

      After breakfast depart on a journey along another Slovenian river, the energetic Sava. Make stop in Brestanica and Sevnica, to photograph two magnificent castles, then drive to Celje, the town of famous noble family, the Counts of Celje, once major rivals of the Habsburgs. Visit another mysterious monastery, the Žiče Charterhouse, once the seat of the Carthusian Order. 

      Drive past vineyards and small villages in Haloze hills and arrive to Ptuj, the oldest Slovenian town with Roman and medieval legacy, settled on the left bank of river Drava.

    • PREKMURJE

      After breakfast departure to Dominko’s homestay, a great example of traditional Pannonian type of farmstead architecture. It is going to be another day exploring the vineyards, where picturesque villages like Jerusalem will take your breath away. Join a pottery workshop and get to know how to photograph a moving subject.  

      Discover the Mura plains and the Mura river, many times described as the Amazon of Europe. Visit the Gipsy community and get acquainted with their unique lifestyle, established here in the 19. Century. Catch the last sunrays by the Bukovnica lake.

    • VELENJE AND LOGAR VALLEY

      In the morning depart to Velenje, the youngest Slovenian town, but with a rich communist heritage. Walk through the town and capture the largest monument of president Josip Broz Tito. Continue to Logar Valley, one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Europe, surrounded from the east by high summits of the Kamnik - Savinja Alps. End your day with a visit of medieval town of Kamnik and return to Ljubljana.
