- Magnificent landscape – green hills and fertile vineyards
We will make Easter 2012 special and spend it on a bicycle tour through beautiful and remote parts of east Slovenia. Ride between 40 and 60 kilometers (25 - 40 miles) per day. We will meet a local sports team every day and play a sport of their choice. Enjoy wine tasting along the way and end each day with a local party.
Day 1 - Rugby
Arrival to Ljubljana (or any of the near-by airports with low cost airline connections: Klagenfurt, Trieste, Graz, Zagreb). Play a game of rugby with the local team and end the day with a party in one of the local pubs. Overnight in a youth hostel in Ljubljana.
Day 2 - Volleyball
Take a train to Novo mesto, the Celtic capital of Slovenia. After a walking tour of the town hop on bicycles and start the cycling tour. Follow the Krka river valley and ride our bikes through the wine region of Dolenjska. Play a game of volleyball in the afternoon and spend the night in a local shed, after a local party.
Day 3 – Mountain hike (optional)
This will be the shortest yet the hardest day of cycling, as we ride our bikes through beautiful countryside and end the ride with a 3-mile climb, to spend the night in a mountain hut with magnificent views all over eastern Slovenia. Those with enough energy can take an hour’s hike to the peak!
Day 4 – Football
Start the day with a descent, the best part of cycling! Continue through Haloze regions, one of the most remote places in Slovenia. Follow a maze of small roads and ride into Ptuj, the oldest town in Slovenia. Play a game of football, have a hearty dinner, a great party and spend the night in a youth hostel right in the town centre.
Day 5 - Touch rugby
We continue our cycling through hilly landscape and magnificent vineyards, and we pass the village of Jeruzalem, established by the crusader knights upon their return from the holy land, a proper stop for the Easter Sunday! We play a game of touch rugby, and spend the night in a local youth hostel.
Day 6 – Cycling
We start the day with a leisurely ride through the local vineyards, in the company of the local cycling club. We stop at several wine cellars.
